A review of 15 studies reveals that acupuncture is beneficial in the treatment of peripheral nephropathies including: diabetic neuropathy, Bell’s palsy, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Peripheral neuropathy is often accompanied by painful paresthesias, which present a great therapeutic challenge for western treatment like medication or injections. The article states that acupuncture, in addition to providing relief of painful paresthesias, appears to improve nerve conduction in both sensory and motor nerves.
